How to book an appointment?

This website allows you to book appointments for free HIV and related sexual health services at the Ivan Toms Centre for Health. Not sure where to start? Begin by taking the simple and private assessment to see services recommended for you and your needs. After booking, remember to save your appointment information. If you need to change your appointment, contact our team on our private call4care line and they will assist you.

Our services

At the Ivan Toms Centre for Health you can access the following free and MSM-friendly services, which can be booked through this website:

  • HIV testing and counselling
  • PrEP, the daily pill that prevents HIV
  • HIV treatment (ARVs) and counseling support
  • PEP, the emergency medication that prevents HIV if you’ve been exposed within the last 72 hours
  • Testing and treatment for STIs, including anal warts
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy
  • Tuberculosis (TB) screening and referral

Privacy and Data Use Policy

The Ivan Toms Centre is an established partner of the Western Cape Department of Health, so your privacy and confidentiality are protected by our trained and experienced clinic staff.

The information you share while using this site will be used to help you get access to our health care services. Learn more about how this data is protected and used below:

  • Your responses on the online assessment: The online assessment helps you receive tailored service recommendations. Your responses to these questions are not shared with clinic staff. Summary responses from the assessment that do not include any identifiable information will be used to improve the services provided by the site. For example: “250 people who completed question 1 on the assessment answered “yes”.
  • Phone number: We require a valid cell phone number for clients to book services in order to send appointment confirmations by SMS and to receive free follow-up services from a confidential case manager, if required and if you approve. You are not obligated to receive these follow up services or communications. Your phone number is shared only with the same clinic staff who would ordinarily have access to your medical records.
  • Clinical data: any clinical data related to your visits remains accessible only to limited clinical staff who are required to access that data in order to support your service delivery and care. For example, a case manager providing follow up counseling support or who is facilitating future appointment bookings.
  • Added safeguards: This site uses many security measures to protect clients and data including using SQL, an encrypted server, and password protected staff logins for clinical and case managers.

Our story

The Ivan Toms Centre for Health was the first clinic for men who have sex with men (MSM) in South Africa. Launched in 2008, the clinic is also the birthplace of Health4men, a national programme providing comprehensive, free, and sensitive health care for all MSM. At the Ivan Toms Centre for Health you can access completely free services to keep your health and well-being strong.
